Program Overview
Green Pathways Program Powered by LDCENY is a workforce initiative designed to connect East Brooklyn residents to careers in the growing green economy. We bring together employers, unions, training providers, educational institutions, and community organizations to create real pathways into family-sustaining careers in industries such as building decarbonization, clean energy, energy efficiency, EV infrastructure, and sustainable construction.
Our Role
LDCENY serves as the backbone organization, coordinating partnerships, participant recruitment, employer engagement, career navigation, and long-term workforce advancement. Rather than operating as a single training provider, we connect residents with the right opportunities and support them from initial interest through employment and career growth.

John Powell serves as the Workforce Development Program Lead for the Local Development Corporation of East New York (LDCENY). John leads the development of innovative workforce strategies that connect residents to careers in the green economy and other high-growth industries.
Throughout his career, John has helped design workforce strategies that have connected thousands of New Yorkers to employment opportunities while building partnerships with employers across construction, clean energy, technology, healthcare, and other emerging sectors. His work centers on creating workforce systems that align community talent with industry demand, ensuring that job seekers have clear pathways to long-term careers and that employers have access to a skilled, diverse workforce.

NYCEDC Announces Five Awardees for East Brooklyn Workforce Development Fund
NYCEDC awarded $1.4 million to five East Brooklyn workforce organizations to expand job training in construction, welding, renewable energy, entrepreneurship, real estate development, and other growing industries. The Local Development Corporation of East New York is among the recipients and will use the funding to connect local residents with career opportunities tied to the Broadway Junction redevelopment and the Innovative Urban Village Construction Academy.
The announcement also highlights $130 million in planned public-space improvements around Broadway Junction, including new plazas, safer streets, improved transit access, and economic-development projects. The investment is intended to ensure East Brooklyn residents benefit directly from new jobs and development occurring in the area.
