Our housing developments—New Lots Plaza and Eldert Lane—provide over 200 units of affordable housing. The LDCENY is currently developing an additional 400-500 units of housing in East New York over the next three years.
The Need for Affordable Housing in Brooklyn is Bigger Than Ever It is estimated that more than thirty-three percent of renters in East Brooklyn spend at least half of their total income on rent. That means nearly 50,000 families and individuals are one missed paycheck away from becoming homeless. In response to such alarming need, the East Brooklyn Housing Development Corporation began providing affordable housing to low and moderate income families in East New York in 2009. To date, EBHDC has developed more than 350 units of housing and is in the process of developing of an additional 600+ units in East Brooklyn.
