East Brooklyn is one of the few vital industrial areas still active in New York City. The LDCENY’s commitment to supporting and expanding local industry spans a wide range of programs and a variety of industries.
Women's Business Center/Brooklyn Enterprise Center
One of LDCENY’s most important goals is to create jobs and economic opportunity by helping local residents start, manage and grow their own businesses. The Brooklyn Enterprise Center (BEC) at the LDCENY offers a variety of services in English and in Spanish that support women and minority entrepreneurs.
Environmental Programs
The LDCENY recognizes that the economic future of the community depends upon the application of sound environmental practices, including the management of the most fundamental economic asset which is land. This recognition is the impetus for programs such as Brownfield Remediation.
Housing Initiatives
The development of up to 99 units of affordable rental housing will shortly begin on a site that the LDCENY won through the City’s competitive Cornerstone Program.
This 33,000 square foot site will contain one, two and three bedroom units, community space and retail space, while preserving and enhancing the area’s famed Farmers Market.
